May Minutes

BEAR LAKE RENDEZVOUS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Minutes of Monthly Membership Meeting

May 1, 2008

The May membership meeting was held at Lakeside Pizza at 12:00 noon.  Those present were Carmen Madsen, Judy Holbrook, Frank Smith, Steve Allred, Cindy Motta, Jordon Hardinger, Charai Henderson, Heidi Dexter,  Loretta Fidler and Jackie Meads. Lunch of  pizza and salad was served to all those present.  The two new members were warmly welcomed.

Minutes of the meeting of April 10 were distributed, reviewed and approved on motion by Judy Holbrook, second by Brandon Moldenhauer.

Discussion was had regarding the commuter bus, which is scheduled to start service on May 23.  Schedules will be three times a day and will be posted as soon as we are sure of exactly when the bus will run from Montpelier to Blue Water Beach .  It will run early enough and late enough to accommodate workers.

Website:  We will have an application for summer employment, commuter bus information and the fact that workers can legally work here at 13 years of age posted on the Chamber website.

The Treasurer’s report was presented and is hereby made a part of these minutes.  The report was approved on motion by Steve Allred, seconded by Frank Smith.

Angie McPhie is working with the Rich County Times regarding summer advertising for Chamber members, which will be in the form of either a full page or a half page listing of each business in a business card format and will be run twice a month for the summer season.  The cost to the Chamber would be $100 for a full page and $50 for a half page per publication.  The paper will also give all individual members of the Chamber a discount on other ads in their publication.  Frank Smith made the motion that this form of advertising be approved, seconded by Brandon Moldenhauer and that we can decide whether to go a full page or half page when the membership list is completed.

Angie McPhie sent the Certificate of Membership to the meeting and they were presented to those present.  Jackie is in charge of distributing these to other members.  Angie did a beautiful job of making up these Certificates and they are perfect for framing and hanging in a business.

Jackie Meads reported that Sandy Warner of Fish Haven has volunteered to become chairman of the Chocolate Festival 2009, and that we should make her Chamber membership for the balance of 2008 and 2008-09 dues complimentary because of this service.  Unanimous approval.

Jackie Meads also asked for volunteers for a Nominating Committee to select nominees for the offices of President and Vice President of the Chamber.  She also announced we need a membership drive committee to contact new businesses and businesses that are not now members.

There will be a marathon around the lake area on June 14 and volunteers are needed for the water stations along the route.

Discussion was had regarding moving the Chamber office to the new Town complex (now known as Canyon Cove).  The town council will have to be contacted to find out what arrangements have to be made.

Steve Allred (Zions Bank in Montpelier ) reported on the possibility of a bank for Garden City.  They are looking at a trailer for the summer.  Scott Anderson, President of Zions, came to the area to fact find.  They would have to have an armored car come over two to three times a week to pick up cash and take it to town.  Moving cash from here in the summer is a problem, and this would be a good way to do it at minimum expense.  This is still under consideration by Zions.

Steve Allred reported that the Oregon Trail Center is offering entertainment to locals and also to tourists all summer.  Saturday nights during the summer will almost always have an event. There will be posters put out in the next week or so.  There will be opportunities to advertise.  This is also a good opportunity for fund raisers.  Currently they have a production of local people performing on Saturday night at $6 per ticket.  This is the “First Annual Can you Believe IT” concert and is being presented by local business people – talented or not – and very comical.  You can get tickets by calling the Trail Center at 208-847-3800.  They also have a great chef at the Center.

Personal introductions were made for the benefit of our two new members and get acquainted for all of the members.

Meeting then adjourned.
